About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and/or the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Retail Marketing is a strategic partner who oversees the development and execution of the brand and marketing plans for Nova Cannabis’ stores, including the Value Buds banner, to ensure the business exceeds its goals of building awareness and increasing store visits, while attracting new customers. The ideal candidate will lead the development of long-term brand marketing strategies that when executed effectively communicate and enhance our competitive advantages, improve our brand health and help to drive the achievement of profitable sales targets and share gains. The appropriate candidate is a well-rounded marketing professional with experience working in retail and with highly regulated industries (cannabis industry experience a benefit) and is as comfortable building out and managing a multi-disciplinary team as they are rolling up their sleeves and working directly on deliverables.

 

Role and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leads the development and execution of marketing plans (inclusive of social media, digital, in-store activations, sponsorships and earned media / media relations) with internal and external partners that drive sales, improve ROI and drive market share growth
  • Develop, track and report on campaign and calendar specific KPIs
  • Proactively aligns the organization and drives the marketing strategy and execution to drive the growth in-store and in digital
  • Works collaboratively with the operations team to manage brand standards
  • Collaborates with the Product Category Manager, Area and Regional Managers and other assigned team members to build a pipeline of innovation that has consumer validated propositions, and strong go to market plans, while monitoring in-store financial performance
  • Manages programs within the required compliance and work process guidelines, looks for opportunity to improve work processes and increase agility without compromising compliance
  • Actively monitor industry trends and store level performance and develop marketing initiatives to address
  • Is the champion of brands and customer experiences. Ensuring effective communication and understanding of brand objectives, initiatives, and vision across the organization, to ensure seamless transition of execution and implementation
  • Manages all marketing projects ensuring alignment with core consumer needs and adherence to store brand
  • Continuously works towards improving marketing ROI through the identification of opportunities, both cost savings and business building. Leverages strong management of financial reporting, business analysis and reviews. Ensures the marketing budget is managed in accordance with best practices.
  • Support promotion of partner brands in stores by way of activation, etc.
  • Manage market research and consumer insights

Experience and Qualifications

  • University or college degree in business, marketing or an equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Minimum, 3+ years’ supervisory experience
  • Experience in cannabis and / or cannabis retail preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent organizational, planning and problem solving skills
  • Excellent analytical and negotiation skills
  • Broad and comprehensive understanding of marketing disciplines including marketing analytics and technology.
  • Proven track record of successful brand management and digital marketing transformation.
  • Experience working with data and both qualitative and quantitative insights preferred
  • Broad retail experience including working knowledge of cross functional areas/processes and their inter-relationships
  • Computer literate with demonstrated ability to adapt to new programs and software
  • Highly proficient in MS Office Suite applications
  • Sound knowledge of retail operations and related operating practices
  • Familiarity with cannabis industry is an asset.
  • Must be comfortable travelling
