About the Role

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Accountant is a key part of the department’s growth and success. This role is a critical connection between the Payroll Department and the rest of the business with exposure to finance, reporting and analytics while also participating in various capacities to complete ongoing projects.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparation and review of biweekly journal entries, payroll monthly accruals as well as quarterly reporting for Finance department.
  • Prepare reconciliations and remittances for group benefit vendors, garnishments, WCB, and EHT accounts. Provide analysis on accounts as required.
  • Provide biweekly and monthly payroll reports as required after each pay run as well as to HR, Finance, Operations, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain knowledge and familiarity of employment standards to ensure compliance with all federal & provincial legislations.
  • Assist with yearend payroll procedures such as T4s and WCB annual returns.
  • Assist with group benefits management with reconciliation of provider billings and semiannual benefit eligibility reports for HR.
  • Participate in audits by providing supporting documentation or other documents requested.
  • Assist with special projects and ad hoc tasks

 

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum, 4 years of relevant working experience in Payroll and Finance.
  • Strong working knowledge of ADP Workforce Now.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications such as: Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is preferred.
  • Post-secondary education in Finance, is preferred.
