About the Role

 

Reporting to the Senior HR Business Partner, the HR Generalist is primarily responsible for supporting the HR team with day-to-day operations and playing a heavy role in working with HR, corporate, and retail leaders, to help move HR initiatives forward. In this role, you must be confident in your HR abilities and comfortable liaising with a variety of stakeholders, including C-suite, to understand business needs and outcomes as it relates to HR. In this role, no task is too small or too big, the successful candidate must be willing and able to support with everything from administrative tasks to taking a lead on unfamiliar or complex initiatives.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Supporting the HR Business Partners with day-to-day needs and helping navigate the HR needs involved during business changes by taking ownership of defined tasks.
  • Supporting the HR team by conducting needs analysis, research, and interpreting those insights into possible strategies or action items to help create project plans and implementation strategies.
  • Pulling reports and compiling raw data into meaningful HR metrics for HR/Payroll as requested.
  • Providing recommendations for employee relations matters to support the HR Business Partners.
  • Drafting and reviewing a variety of employment letters for the HR Business Partners.
  • Drafting correspondence on behalf of the HR team, including letters, emails, memos, policies, procedures, process instructions, information summaries, proposals, etc. as needed.
  • Building and editing HR materials which may include templates, tools, and training resources in order to improve overall efficiency, effectiveness, and user experience.
  • Participating in peer review for HR team members as requested, to confirm accuracy, reduce risk, and broaden perspective.
  • Providing oral and written employment verifications for current and former employees, while ensuring that proper consent and disclosure practices are followed.
  • Reviewing and working with documentation from confidential personnel records in order to provide information to the HR team.
  • Pulling employee personnel files as needed and supporting HR audits.
  • Completing HR/Payroll documentation updates on the company-wide intranet as needed.
  • Daily management of the general HR email inbox by distributing emails to the HR Business Partners or addressing them independently as needed.
  • Participate in the monthly rotation for management of the general HR phone line.
  • Keeping up to date with current HR trends, best practice, and legislation changes in the provinces we operate in.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Experience and Qualifications

 

  • Post-secondary degree with a focus in HR required.
  • Candidates who have obtained or are working towards their CPHR preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in HR required.
  • Experience supporting a mid-sized company operating in multiple Canadian provinces is an asset.
  • Experience working in HR for a retail company is an asset.
  • Requires a good understanding of employment legislation and a basic understanding of the regulatory requirements in the liquor/cannabis industry.
  • Must excel in accurately analyzing and synthesizing data into practical inferences, providing well-planned and comprehensive recommendations.
  • Must be highly accountable and able to develop and oversee project plans to move them forward.
  • Must be proficient is Microsoft Office Suite, have a good understanding of HRIS, training, and payroll systems.
  • Must be able to pass a basic criminal record check.
  • Must have reliable transportation to commute to/from work and ability to travel to store locations on occasion if needed (less than 10% of the time).
